Commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) software has been hyped as the solution to reduce agency costs.   However, there's more to acquiring and supporting a COTS application than meets the eye. The presenter and a panel of seasoned IT professionals will share their experiences (the good, the bad, and the ugly) with COTS systems and vendors.  Myths will be busted, and you'll learn some valuable tips for buying and supporting packaged software. GMAP - Establishing a new paradigm for improving public services

Sierra Systems has invited Ms. Rose Hayden, a former Texas state official to lead this insightful and interactive session about GMAP.  WA State Governor Gregoire has directed Washington State government to establish a new paradigm for improving public services. The Government Management, Accountability, and Performance (GMAP) go beyond simply improving output measurements to address actual outcomes. Washington is not the first to seek these benefits.  This session will present a panel of former public officials and experts to address real world issues - what works and what doesn't?  What lessons have been learned by others?  What role does technology, policy incentives, and organization structure play?

The .Net Developer’s Roundtable will address some of the more controversial issues surrounding the .NET Framework and the code written for it. Integrated Planning for the Merchandising Business Systems Project at the WA Liquor Control Board

Rhodes Consulting Services’ Charley Reed and Norwin Burbidge, and Randy Simmons, Finance/IT Director for the  WA Liquor Control Board Consulting Services will describe how the successful execution of Phase II of the Merchandising Business System was very critical to the mission of the WA Liquor Control Board.  The Liquor Control Board determined that they wanted a well defined project plan that was integrated across all system teams and that the project plan needed to provide well defined critical paths for measuring and managing the project’s progress. Jesse Regalado, WA State Patrol, and speakers from the Department of Licensing, Identity Theft Unit (ITU) and the Attorney Generals office (AG) will present detailed information about identity theft. Presenters will offer tips and resources to help combat the fastest growing crime in the United States. This presentation will cover techniques on reducing the risk of becoming a victim, how to protect yourself while you are on the Internet, and provide information on available resources if you have been an identity theft victim.  Jesse Regalado is currently a detective in the newly established Identity Theft Unit. He is a 15 year veteran of the WA State Patrol and has been a detective in the Missing Exploited Children Task Force and the Computer Crimes Unit.
